Government allocates RM130 million for Tamil School Building Project

MIC has been working hard in order to upgrade infrastructure in Tamil schools by requesting sufficient funding from the government. Under the leadership of Dato Seri S. Samy Vellu and with his whole hearted efforts, 70 Tamil schools were rebuilt and upgraded through government funding since 1985. Since then many Tamil schools have seen greater changes in infrastructure and also in quality education.

With continued efforts and request by the MIC, now the government has allocated RM130 million for the development of Tamil schools. The first RM30 million was allocated by the then Prime Minister, Y.A.B Dato Seri Abdullah bin Badawi in the beginning of 2008. Under the first Economic Stimulus package, RM50 million was allocated and another RM50 million was set aside in the second Economic Stimulus Package announced by Y.A.B Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak. The allocation is being used to rebuild, repair and upgrade facilities in Tamil schools nationwide.
