MIC will mark a milestone in two weeks when it celebrates its 70th anniversary on Aug 5.
One of the oldest political parties in Malaysia, MIC was established in August 1946 and has championed the Indian community’s needs through a united stand.
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri S.K. Devamany said the celebration would commemmorate efforts of the party’s founders who had served the community and was aimed at uniting the people.
“Our motto this time is Single Voice, Common Goal.
“We want the government, the community and individuals to unite.
“Young people in the community must move with us to achieve change for the betterment of our future, be it personal achievement or cultural expression,” he said.
Devamany added that MIC had planned a month-long celebration with various activities lined up to foster closer rapport with the people.
To drive home this point, Devamany hosted high tea at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur for members of the media who had, since 1990, provided coverage on MIC and its programmes.
Also present were MIC National Information chief Datuk V.S Mogan, MIC National Service Centre coordinator Datuk N. Muneandy and Seputeh MIC division vice-chairman Gunaseelan Rajoo.
