I refer to a statement made by Dato Mohan Shan, Malaysian Hindu Sangam President, which was published Malay Mail’s online portal. The statement insinuated that MIC had agreed to Dr.Zakir Naik to proceed with his lectures in Malaysia.
Dato Mohan Shan cannot and should not run away from the fact that it was the MIC, particularly it’s Youth Wing, which had ignited the objection to Dr.Zakir Naik’s forum titled ‘Similarities Between Hinduism and Islam’. In my statement previously, I had stated that the MIC Youth will and has made police reports nationwide and that we will be also be obtaining a court injunction to stop Dr.Zakir Naik from continuing his forum. It was also reported widely by the media, that the IGP had indeed instructed for the cancellation of the programme after multiple reports made by MIC Youth, nationwide. Not only that, MIC President, Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam had also raised these concerns with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, YAB Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi as well as the Inspector General of Police of Malaysia, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar after MIC Youth had lodged the reports.
Dr.Zakir Naik now has been allowed to speak, with the condition that the title is changed and that he does not touch on any other religions but Islam. I urge Dato Mohan Shan to be a little more attentive as to the actions taken by MIC in this matter rather than to seeking credit and publicity after the matter has met it’s solution. We in MIC, have been and always will be attending to the needs and sensitivity of the Indian Community in general. It is our responsibility and obligation.
With that at hand, I urge and welcome Dato Mohan Shan in working hand in hand with the MIC and it’s leaders as he has been doing in the past over many issues. One should not just come to MIC and it’s leaders for help and assistance and criticise them without basis later on. Please check with us before issuing such statements as we don’t want a person of his stature to earn unnecessary criticisms.
