It’s Time to Change the Script, YB Kula
This is a reply to YB Kulasegaran’s comments on FMT titled ‘Blueprint for Indians Only When Votes on the Line’. The honourable YB who is the DAP national vice-chairman and Ipoh Barat MP would like to propose a Parliamentary Select Committee to dig up the national archives of all the Indian issues and re-examine how the Indians were marginalised and neglected. He wants answers and the causative agents to be prosecuted. Kudos YB, indeed we need to identify all the culprits and ways to move forward. Even better, why don’t we form a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on who caused the systematic neglect and marginalisation of the Indian Community? YB, do you dare to raise this up and cause your de-factor leader to be called up to defend himself?
YB correctly points out that In 1970, there were over 17% Indians in the civil service, now there is less than 5%. Indians inhabit the margins of both the civil and private sectors. In all fairness YB, this should be directed at your current de-facto leader, Tun Mahathir, who undeniably caused the Indian neglect in this country. Now it seems you guys are good chums trying to spin the blame towards PM Najib who hardly spent 8 years as a Prime Minister but has carried out so many Indian initiatives in his short stint, which some are jokingly calling him the Indian godfather.
YB Kula’s gripe on the blueprint has been the same week in week out. In his previous articles, the YB has stated that there are already too many Blueprints submitted in the past and its a complete waste to develop a new one for each election. Further to iterate the opposition’s impartiality in providing for all races equally, YB and his colleagues have stated that Indians do not need a stand alone plan and the opposition states are already carrying out assistance to Indians, which has been one of those David Blaine illusions that no one has ever seen before.
Also YB, you want a Parliamentary Select Committee to come up with another document to line up the great halls of Indian Blueprint. Its no guessing what this committee would find. Please pardon my language here, we are freaking fed-up with more paperwork. YB with all due respect, lets just move on and start implementing. Do we need to waste more time and resources in formulating mere words?
Its time to change the script YB. Your capacity to articulate your thoughts is getting disappointingly shallow, for one senior policy maker boasting 30 years of political experience. We understand the need to prop up more frequently in the mainstream as the election fever is gripping the nation. Disappointingly you just seem to be the usual run of the mill politician trying to hoodwink the voters.
If one reads the blueprint, all issues affecting the community is comprehensively detailed out. Not sure if YB Kula even took a glance at it. A unit with 50 over staff is being set up at the moment in SEDIC, which is being expanded to implement the plans for the next 10 years. SEDIC as the implementation body has been a hive of activity, within just few months of the MIB launch in April. The recent MyDaftar campaign has received nearly 2500 application, putting into question the populist unsubstantiated claims by YB Kula’s comrades of the 300,000 undocumented Indians. If you claim to have 300,000 cases, then the least you could do is to provide at least 1% which is around 3000 cases to honour your word and credibility.
Additionally, since 2015 SEDIC has established a Grant Application Process which has provided RM160 million to NGO’s and Program Providers which has directly benefitted nearly 300,000 Indians. Is this an eyewash dear YB?
The first habit of highly effective person according to Stephen R. Covey is being proactive, which is the opposite of waiting around and complaining about the unfair world. Rather, get into action within the circle of your control. MP Kula and his comrades have been ranting and raving about the Blueprint week in week out without proposing a solution in sight. Why doesn’t DAP show as much vigour and commitment as they do when they collect donations through their dinner parties, to implement community initiatives listed out by any blueprint. Why can’t the Opposition Parties take the lead in their respective states at least. Show us what you have for the Indian Community YB?
