RM20 Million To Build And Repair Tamil Type Schools



The government has allocated a total of RM20 million to build and repair national Tamil type schools nationwide.

Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said of the total, RM10.9 million would be used to replace 10 school buildings in Selangor.

He said Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein and Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop had given the approval for the allocation following the go ahead from the cabinet.

"The Public Works Department has investigated and identified 22 schools in Selangor and 10 of them will be replaced with new buildings.

"The rest of the allocation will be used for Tamil type schools in states such as Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Johor and Perak," he told reporters after launching the MIC Youth election machinery here today.

Samy Vellu also thanked Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo for approving RM1.2 million to build a new building for SJKT Seaport in Taman Medan.

On scrap metal business, Samy Vellu who is also MIC president said the police would interfere only when they involved in the sale of stolen items.

Meanwhile at the same event, Dr Mohamad Khir said the issuance of licence for scrap metal business had been relaxed to give more opportunities for members of the Indian community to venture into the business.
